Frequently Asked Questions
This page contains a list of the most common questions (and answers!) first-time visitors to the Pottery Project often ask. If you cannot find the information you are looking for below, please ring, email or drop in using the contact details at the bottom of this page.
How much does it cost?
There is a studio fee of £5 per person who paints (reduced to £3.50 per person for groups of 6 or more). You then pay for the pottery you choose. Our pottery selection ranges from approx £2.50-£26.50
If you decide to join as a member, there are no studio fees to pay during the duration of your membership.
Why is there a studio fee?
This covers the cost of the paints, materials (including stencils, stamps, sponges, brushes etc), glaze and firing. The fee applies per person per visit and not per item you paint. Of course if you don’t paint, you don’t pay a studio fee!
How long does it take?
This is a tricky one to answer – how long is a piece of string?! The time it takes to paint pottery depends on a number of factors including the age of the painter(s) (younger ones often have a limited concentration span!), the number and size of the pottery items chosen etc.
However, as general rule, for painters aged approx 7yrs + we would recommend you allow approx 1-2 hours. We have a small play area to keep younger siblings busy – and we serve great snacks, coffee & cake if you get hungry while you paint!
Other than our supervised kids’ workshops we do not run set sessions and you are welcome to stay as long as you like (within our opening hours!).
Can I book in advance?
We currently only take bookings for
Groups of 6 people or more; if you require 6 or more seats we recommend you book in advance. Even if you or any other accompanying adults or children are not painting they will still need a seat so please include non-painters and painters in your booking!!
If there are less than 6 of you, you can just turn up. Please be aware that the school holidays can be very busy!
Those with little ones (under 2 years) who would like help with hand and footprints on pottery or plaster outprints. Where possible we like to offer extra help to those of you with little ones to achieve hand/footprints to be proud of. This can take extra time so we recommend any customers with a little one who would like help with prints to book in advance.
What age is pottery painting suitable for?
Any! Our youngest customer to date was just 30 hours old and our eldest 80yrs+ !
Can I take my pottery home with me on the day?
No. It takes a maximum of 7 days for us to glaze and fire your piece(s), although we try to have a turnaround of approx 4 days. When you have finished painting we will let you know when your pottery will be ready for you to collect.
In a hurry? You could try making a mosaic; all our mosaic items can be taken home straight away.
Is there parking?
We have 1-2 spaces available directly in front of the building. On weekdays please refrain from parking in spaces marked “Phillips” as they are not available to our customers at this time.
There are no parking restrictions in Northbridge Road, although please be aware that it can be busy during the week.
Is the paint safe for the kids?
Yes. All the paint is non-toxic and washable.
Can I make my own pottery from clay?
No, unfortunately we do not have the facilities for using wet clay on the premises.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes, they make the perfect present for anyone who likes to get creative.
